Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (1) By the Clear Book, (2) That We made it a distinctly lucid Qur'an that you may understand. (3) And verily it is, in the Original Book before Us, indeed exalted. (4) Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people? (5) How many a Prophet We sent among the ancients, (6) Yet never did a Prophet come to them but they mocked him. (7) So We destroyed far more powerful (nations) than they. The example of earlier people is there. (8) And if you should ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? they would most certainly say: The Mighty, the Knowing One, has created them; (9) (It is) He who made the earth to be a cradle for you and made in it ways for you, in order that you are guided. (10) And Who sendeth down from the heaven water in measure; then We quicken a dead land therewith: even so ye shall be brought forth. (11) it is He who created all living things in pairs and gave you ships to sail in and beasts to ride upon (12) in order that you might gain mastery over them, and that, whenever you have mastered them, you might remember your Sustainer's blessings and say: "Limitless in His glory is He who has made [all] this subservient to our use - since [but for Him,] we would not have been able to attain to it. (13) And verily unto our Lord we are to return. (14) But they have attributed to Him from His servants a portion. Indeed, man is clearly ungrateful. (15)
