Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha, Meem. (1) CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth: (2) We have made it an Arabic reading text so that perhaps you may understand. (3) and behold, it is in the Essence of the Book, with Us; sublime indeed, wise. (4) Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people? (5) And how many a prophet have We sent among the ancients. (6) but not a Prophet came to them, without they mocked at him; (7) So We destroyed far more powerful (nations) than they. The example of earlier people is there. (8) And if you ask them, “Who has created the heavens and the earth?”, they will surely say, “They are created by the Most Honourable, the All Knowing.” (9) He it is Who made this earth for you a cradle and made in it pathways for you that you may find the way to your destination; (10) And (it is He), who sends down water from the sky in its measure thereby We revive the land that was dead, as such you shall be brought forth. (11) He Who created these pairs, all of them, and provided you ships and cattle on which you ride, (12) so that you may sit firmly on their backs. Then once you have mounted them, remember your Lord's favour and say, "Glory be to Him who has subjected these creatures to us; we would never on our own have subdued them. (13) And to our Lord we shall surely return." (14) Yet they have assigned to Him a part of His own servants! Man is dearly unthankful. (15)
