Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (1) By the Scripture which maketh plain, (2) verily We have made it an Arabic Qur'an that you may understand. (3) And verily, it is in the Mother of the Book, in Our Presence, high (in dignity), full of wisdom. (4) Should We have withdrawn the Reminder from you as you are a people who exceed the bounds? (5) And how many a Prophet have We sent amongst the men of old. (6) Yet never did a Prophet come to them but they mocked him. (7) Then We destroyed those who were stronger than these in prowess, and the case of the ancients has gone before, (8) Yet, if you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will answer: 'The Almighty, the Knower created them' (9) Who has made the earth a cradle for you and made thereon paths for you so that, hopefully, you may find your way (10) It is He who has sent down water from the sky in a known measure by which He has given life to the dead earth. In the same way will you also be resurrected. (11) and who created the pairs, all of them, and appointed for you ships and cattle such as you ride, (12) so that you can sit upon their backs and then remember the Favors of your Lord and say: 'Exaltations to Him who has subjected these to us otherwise, we ourselves were not capable of it, (13) indeed, to our Lord we are turning' (14) And from* His bondmen, they appointed a portion for Him; man is indeed an open ingrate. (* Appointed some of His creation as His sons and daughters). (15)
