Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha. Mim. (1) I swear by the Book that makes things clear: (2) verily We have made it an Arabic Qur'an that you may understand. (3) Truly, it is inscribed in the Original Book, in Our keeping; it is sublime and full of wisdom. (4) What! shall We then turn away the reminder from you altogether because you are an extravagant people? (5) And how many a prophet We sent among the ancients. (6) And never came there a Prophet to them but they used to mock at him. (7) Then We destroyed men stronger (in power) than these, and the example of the ancients has passed away (before them). (8) And if you should ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? they would most certainly say: The Mighty, the Knowing One, has created them; (9) He who appointed the earth to be a cradle for you, and appointed ways for you therein, that haply you may be guided; (10) And Who sendeth down water from the sky in (due) measure, and We revive a dead land therewith. Even so will ye be brought forth; (11) it is He who created all living things in pairs and gave you ships to sail in and beasts to ride upon (12) So that when you sit astride of them and think of the bounties of your Lord, you may say: "All glory to Him who subjugated these for us. We were incapable of doing so. (13) Hence, verily, it is unto Him that we must always turn." (14) Yet they have made some of His servants a part of Him. Indeed man is most evidently thankless. (15)
