Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim. (1) By the Clear Book, (2) behold, We have made it an Arabic Koran; haply you will understand; (3) Indeed it is transcribed in the Original Book with Us; sublime and full of wisdom. (4) What! shall We then turn away the reminder from you altogether because you are an extravagant people? (5) How many a Prophet did We send to the ancients, (6) No Prophet came to them whom they did not mock. (7) Then We destroyed men stronger (in power) than these, and the example of the ancients has passed away (before them). (8) If thou askest them, 'Who created the heavens and earth?' they will say, 'The All-mighty, the All-knowing created them.' (9) It is He who has made the earth for you as a cradle and has made roads therein so that you will perhaps seek guidance. (10) He Who sent down water from the sky in a determined measure, and thereby We revived a dead land: likewise will you be raised up (from the earth) -- (11) He who created pairs of everything, and fashioned for you boats and beasts on which you ride, (12) so that perhaps when you ride them, you will recall the bounties of your Lord and when you establish your control over it you would say, "Glory belongs to Him who has made it subservient to us when we would not have been able to do so ourselves. (13) And verily, to Our Lord we indeed are to return! (14) Yet they make some of His servants partners in His divinity. Man is clearly ungrateful! (15)
