We have not created the heavens and earth, and what between them is, for vanity; such is the thought of the unbelievers, wherefore woe unto the unbelievers because of the Fire! (27) Shall We treat those who believe and do good like the mischief-makers in the earth? Or shall We make those who guard (against evil) like the wicked? (28) It is a blessed Book which We have revealed for you so that you will reflect upon its verses and so the people of understanding will take heed. (29) We gave David Solomon. He was an excellent servant who always turned to God. (30) [Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses. (31) And he said: Lo! I have preferred the good things (of the world) to the remembrance of my Lord; till they were taken out of sight behind the curtain. (32) [He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking [their] legs and necks. (33) Surely We put Solomon to the test and cast upon his throne a mere body. Thereupon he penitently turned (to Us). (34) He prayed, "Lord forgive me! Grant me such power as no one after me will have -- You are the Most Generous Provider." (35) So, We subjected to him the wind, it blew gently to his order whithersoever he willed, (36) and We also subjected the devils to him -- all kinds of builders and divers; (37) And others fettered in chains. (38) This is Our free gift, therefore give freely or withhold, without reckoning. (39) And he has a place near to Us, and a fine return. (40)
