88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Sad. CONSIDER this Qur'an, endowed with all that one ought to remember! (1) But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism. (2) How many a generation have We destroyed before their time [for this very sin]! And [how] they called [unto Us] when it was too late to escape! (3) So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies! (4) “Has he made all the Gods into One God? This is really something very strange!” (5) And the Council of them depart, saying 'Go! Be steadfast to your gods; this is a thing to be desired. (6) Never did we hear of [a claim like] this in any faith of latter days! It is nothing but [a mortal man's] invention! (7) Hath the reminder been unto him (alone) among us? Nay, but they are in doubt concerning My reminder; nay but they have not yet tasted My doom. (8) Or, have they the treasuries of the Mercy of your Lord, the Almighty, the Giving? (9) Or is it that the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? If so, let them ascend up with means (to the heavens)! (10) (As they denied Allah's Message) they will be a defeated host like the confederates of the old times (who were defeated). (11) Before them (were many who) belied Messengers, the people of Nuh (Noah); and 'Ad; and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) the man of stakes (with which he used to punish the people), (12) And the Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the dwellers of the wood; these were the confederates. (13) Each of them who rejected the Messenger become subject to Our punishment. (14)
