S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Sad [These letters (Sad etc.) are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Quran full of reminding. (1) Verily those who disbelieve are in vainglory and schism. (2) How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was no longer the time for escape! (3) And they marvel that a warner from among themselves hath come unto them, and the disbelievers say: This is a wizard, a charlatan. (4) "Has he made the gods (all) into one Allah? Truly this is a wonderful thing!" (5) And the Council of them depart, saying 'Go! Be steadfast to your gods; this is a thing to be desired. (6) We have not heard of this in later religion. This is naught but an invention. (7) Has this Exhortation been sent down among us only to him, to the exclusion of all others?” Nay, they are in doubt regarding My Exhortation, and are saying all this because they have not yet had any taste of My chastisement. (8) Or is it that they have the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the great Giver? (9) Have they control over heavens and earth and whatever [lies] between them? Then let them climb up to heaven by ropes: (10) [But] there it is: any and all human beings, however [strongly] leagued together, are bound to suffer defeat [whenever they refuse to accept the truth]. (11) The folk of Noah before them denied (their messenger) and (so did the tribe of) A'ad, and Pharaoh firmly planted, (12) and [the tribe of] Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan]: they all were leagued together, [as it were, in their unbelief:] (13) There was not one of those that did not belie the Messengers. Therefore, My retribution was realized. (14)
