88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Sad. By the Quran, full of admonition! (1) But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism. (2) How many a generation have We destroyed before their time [for this very sin]! And [how] they called [unto Us] when it was too late to escape! (3) And they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves, and the disbelievers say: This is an enchanter, a liar. (4) "Has he made the aliha (gods) (all) into One Ilah (God - Allah). Verily, this is a curious thing!" (5) And the chief persons of them break forth, saying: Go and steadily adhere to your gods; this is most surely a thing sought after. (6) We have not heard of this in the last religion; this is surely an invention. (7) What, has the Remembrance been sent down on him out of us all?' Nay, but they are in doubt of My Remembrance; nay, they have not yet tasted My chastisement. (8) Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower? (9) Have they control over heavens and earth and whatever [lies] between them? Then let them climb up to heaven by ropes: (10) (As they denied Allah's Message) they will be a defeated host like the confederates of the old times (who were defeated). (11) The people of Nuh and Ad, and Firon, the lord of spikes, rejected (apostles) before them. (12) And Thamud, and the people of Lout (Lot), and the dwellers of the wood; such were the confederates. (13) Each of them who rejected the Messenger become subject to Our punishment. (14)
