88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
SAD. I CALL to witness the admonishing Qur'an. (1) In fact, the disbelievers are in false pride and opposition. (2) Many a generation We did destroy before them thereupon they cried out whereas it is not the time to escape! (3) They were surprised that one of them had come to them as warner; and the unbelievers said: "He is a deceiving sorcerer. (4) Maketh he the gods One God? Verily that is a thing astounding! (5) The chiefs among them go about, exhorting: Go and be staunch to your gods! Lo! this is a thing designed. (6) We never heard of this in the former faith; this is nothing but a forgery: (7) “Is the Qur’an which is sent to him, among us?” In fact they are in a doubt concerning My Book; in fact, they have not yet tasted My punishment. (8) Or have they the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord,- the Exalted in Power, the Grantor of Bounties without measure? (9) Or, is theirs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them? Then let them ascend by (their) means! (10) They will be one more army vanquished among the many routed hordes. (11) Before them (were many who) belied Messengers, the people of Nuh (Noah); and 'Ad; and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) the man of stakes (with which he used to punish the people), (12) Thamood, the nation of Lot and the dwellers of the Thicket such were the confederates. (13) None of them was such that it did not deny the Noble Messengers, therefore My punishment became inevitable. (14)
