S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! (1) nay, but the unbelievers glory in their schism. (2) How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they called, but time was none to escape. (3) They wondered that a warner had come to them from among themselves, and the deniers of the Truth said: “This is a sorcerer, and a big liar. (4) Does he make all the deities out to be one God? This is indeed a strange thing." (5) Their assembly left (saying): 'Go, and be patient to your gods, this is something to be desired. (6) We have not heard of this in the last religion; this is surely an invention. (7) Can it be that he alone has received the Quran?" In fact, they have doubts about My Quran and this is because they have not yet faced (My) torment. (8) Or are theirs the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Mighty, the Bestower? (9) Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)! (10) [But] there it is: any and all human beings, however [strongly] leagued together, are bound to suffer defeat [whenever they refuse to accept the truth]. (11) Before them there have belied the people of Nuh and the 'Aad, and Fir'awn the owner of the stakes. (12) and [the tribe of] Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan]: they all were leagued together, [as it were, in their unbelief:] (13) There was not one of them but treated their messengers as liars, so My punishment rightly overtook them: (14)
