S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
SAD. I CALL to witness the admonishing Qur'an. (1) But nay - they who are bent on denying the truth are lost in [false] pride, and [hence] deeply in the wrong. (2) How many ancient generations did We destroy? (On facing Our torment) they cried out for help, but it was too late for them to escape. (3) Now these [people] deem it strange that a warner should have come unto them from their own midst - and [so] the deniers of the truth are saying: "A [mere] spellbinder is he, a liar! (4) Does he claim that all the deities are [but] one God? Verily, a most strange thing is this!" (5) And the Council of them depart, saying 'Go! Be steadfast to your gods; this is a thing to be desired. (6) We have not heard of this in the latest religion. This is not but a fabrication. (7) Has this Exhortation been sent down among us only to him, to the exclusion of all others?” Nay, they are in doubt regarding My Exhortation, and are saying all this because they have not yet had any taste of My chastisement. (8) Do they possess the treasures of the mercy of your, (Muhammad's), Lord, the Majestic and Munificent God? (9) Or, is theirs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them? Then let them ascend by (their) means! (10) They are only a small band among the defeated confederate tribes. (11) The people of Noah, Ad and the dominating Pharaoh had rejected Our revelations. (12) and Thamood, and the people of Lot, and the men of the Thicket - those were the parties; (13) Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them). (14)
