88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Sad. By the Qur'an full of admonition. (1) But the unbelievers are still full of pride and hostility. (2) How many generations We have destroyed before them! And they cried out when it was too late to escape. (3) And they marvel that a warner from among themselves hath come unto them, and the disbelievers say: This is a wizard, a charlatan. (4) "Has he made the gods (all) into one Allah? Truly this is a wonderful thing!" (5) Their leaders departed, saying, "Walk away! Hold fast to your deities. This is clearly a conspiracy. (6) We never heard of this in the former religion. It is nothing but an invention. (7) "Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us?" Nay! but they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Quran)! Nay, but they have not tasted (My) Torment! (8) Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower? (9) Or is it that theirs is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between them? Then let them ascend by any (10) This is just one of the disgraced armies, that will be routed there and then. (11) The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] 'Aad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes, (12) and [the tribe of] Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan]: they all were leagued together, [as it were, in their unbelief:] (13) There was not one of them but treated their messengers as liars, so My punishment rightly overtook them: (14)
