88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Suad, I swear by the Quran, full of admonition. (1) Those who deny the truth are steeped in arrogance and hostility. (2) How many generations before them did We destroy? In the end they cried (for mercy)- when there was no longer time for being saved! (3) And they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, "This is a magician and a liar. (4) Does he make all the deities out to be one God? This is indeed a strange thing." (5) Their assembly left (saying): 'Go, and be patient to your gods, this is something to be desired. (6) "We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!" (7) What, out of all of us, has the Remembrance been sent down to him (Prophet Muhammad)' No, they are doubtful about My Remembrance, no, they have not yet tasted My punishment. (8) Do they possess the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the Great Bestower? (9) Do they own the heavens and the earth and all that is between them? Let them try on their own to block (the ways of heavens so that Our revelations cannot come to you). (10) [They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers]. (11) Before them, the people of Nooh had denied, and the tribe of A’ad, and Firaun who used to crucify. (12) Thamood, the nation of Lot and the dwellers of the Thicket such were the confederates. (13) Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them). (14)
