S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Sad [These letters (Sad etc.) are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Quran full of reminding. (1) Nay, but the unbelievers are steeped in arrogance and stubborn defiance. (2) How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they called, but time was none to escape. (3) Now they marvel that a warner has come to them from among them; and the unbelievers say, 'This is a lying sorcerer. (4) Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing." (5) And the Council of them depart, saying 'Go! Be steadfast to your gods; this is a thing to be desired. (6) We never heard of this in the former faith; this is nothing but a forgery: (7) Has the reminder been revealed to him from among us? Nay! they are in doubt as to My reminder. Nay! they have not yet tasted My chastisement! (8) Or have they the treasures of the Mercy of your Lord, the All-Mighty, the Real Bestower? (9) Or do they possess the dominion of the heavens and the earth and of all that is in between them? If so, let them ascend the heights of the realm of causation and see! (10) this host too, among other hosts, is bound to suffer defeat. (11) Before them the people of Noah denied the truth, as did the 'Ad and Pharaoh of the Stakes, (12) Thamood, the nation of Lot and the dwellers of the Thicket such were the confederates. (13) There was none of them but called the apostles liars, so just was My retribution. (14)
