S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Saad, by the Holy Reading (Koran) of the Remembrance. (1) But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism. (2) How many a nation did We destroy before them! (When they approached their doom) they cried out (for deliverance), but the time for deliverance was already past. (3) They marvel now that, from among themselves, a warner has come to them. The unbelievers say: 'This is a lying sorcerer. (4) Maketh he the gods One God? Verily that is a thing astounding! (5) The chiefs among them departed saying: go, and persevere in your gods; verily this is a thing designed. (6) “We never heard of this even in Christianity, the latest religion; this is clearly a newly fabricated matter.” (7) "What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"... but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment! (8) Or do they [think that they] own the treasures of thy Sustainer's grace - [the grace] of the Almighty, the Giver of Gifts? (9) Or [that] the dominion over the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? Why, then, let them try to ascend [to God-like power] by all [conceivable] means! (10) This is only a small army out of the several armies that will suffer defeat here. (11) The folk of Noah before them denied (their messenger) and (so did the tribe of) A'ad, and Pharaoh firmly planted, (12) and Thamood, and the people of Lot, and the men of the Thicket - those were the parties; (13) Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them). (14)
