In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Sad. By the Qur'an full of admonition. (1) But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism. (2) How many a generation We have destroyed before them, and they cried out when there was no longer time for escape! (3) Now these [people] deem it strange that a warner should have come unto them from their own midst - and [so] the deniers of the truth are saying: "A [mere] spellbinder is he, a liar! (4) Has he made the gods one single God? This is truly astounding.” (5) And the elders among them went forth saying: “Go ahead and be steadfast in adhering to your deities. What is being said is with a design.” (6) We have heard nothing like this in the latest religion. This is only his own false invention. (7) Has this Exhortation been sent down among us only to him, to the exclusion of all others?” Nay, they are in doubt regarding My Exhortation, and are saying all this because they have not yet had any taste of My chastisement. (8) Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower? (9) Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)! (10) They will be one more army vanquished among the many routed hordes. (11) The people of Noah, Ad and the dominating Pharaoh had rejected Our revelations. (12) and the tribe of Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the Wood -- these were the confederates. (13) Not one of them but belied the Messengers, therefore My Torment was justified, (14)
