S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Sad. I swear by the Quran, which is full of reminders of God, (that you are a Messenger). (1) But nay - they who are bent on denying the truth are lost in [false] pride, and [hence] deeply in the wrong. (2) How many a generation We have destroyed before them, and they cried out when there was no longer time for escape! (3) Now they marvel that a warner has come to them from among them; and the unbelievers say, 'This is a lying sorcerer. (4) What! makes he the gods a single Allah? A strange thing is this, to be sure! (5) And the Council of them depart, saying 'Go! Be steadfast to your gods; this is a thing to be desired. (6) "We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!" (7) Has the reminder been revealed to him from among us? Nay! they are in doubt as to My reminder. Nay! they have not yet tasted My chastisement! (8) Do they possess the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the Great Bestower? (9) Or is theirs the kingdom of the heavens and earth and of what between them is? Why, then let them ascend the cords! (10) They are only a small band among the defeated confederate tribes. (11) Cried lies before them the people of Noah, and Ad, and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, (12) And Thamud, and the people of Lout (Lot), and the dwellers of the wood; such were the confederates. (13) Not one of them but belied the Messengers, therefore My Torment was justified, (14)
