Juz 23
S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Sad. I swear by the Quran, which is full of reminders of God, (that you are a Messenger). (1) But nay - they who are bent on denying the truth are lost in [false] pride, and [hence] deeply in the wrong. (2) How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was no longer the time for escape! (3) Now these [people] deem it strange that a warner should have come unto them from their own midst - and [so] the deniers of the truth are saying: "A [mere] spellbinder is he, a liar! (4) Maketh he the gods One Allah? Lo! that is an astounding thing. (5) And their leaders launch forth [thus]: "Go ahead, and hold steadfastly onto your deities: this, behold, is the only thing to do! (6) We never heard of this in the former faith; this is nothing but a forgery: (7) Can it be that he alone has received the Quran?" In fact, they have doubts about My Quran and this is because they have not yet faced (My) torment. (8) Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower? (9) Or is theirs the kingdom of the heavens and earth and of what between them is? Why, then let them ascend the cords! (10) Here there is a host of the confederates only to be defeated. (11) Before them, the people of Nooh had denied, and the tribe of A’ad, and Firaun who used to crucify. (12) And Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the Companions of the Wood; - such were the Confederates. (13) Each of them denied the messengers, so My penalty was justified. (14)
