88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Sad. By the Koran, containing the Remembrance -- (1) But nay - they who are bent on denying the truth are lost in [false] pride, and [hence] deeply in the wrong. (2) How many ancient generations did We destroy? (On facing Our torment) they cried out for help, but it was too late for them to escape. (3) They marvel now that, from among themselves, a warner has come to them. The unbelievers say: 'This is a lying sorcerer. (4) Maketh he the gods One Allah? Lo! that is an astounding thing. (5) The chiefs among them departed saying: go, and persevere in your gods; verily this is a thing designed. (6) We never heard of this in the former faith; this is nothing but a forgery: (7) What, out of all of us, has the Remembrance been sent down to him (Prophet Muhammad)' No, they are doubtful about My Remembrance, no, they have not yet tasted My punishment. (8) Or do they hold the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Almighty, the Great Bestower? (9) Or, is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and that which is in-between the twain? If so, let them ascend by steps. (10) Here there is a host of the confederates only to be defeated. (11) The people of Noah, Ad and the dominating Pharaoh had rejected Our revelations. (12) and Thamood, and the people of Lot, and the men of the Thicket - those were the parties; (13) None of them was such that it did not deny the Noble Messengers, therefore My punishment became inevitable. (14)
