S (Saad)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Moon (Al-Qamar) before A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Saad* By oath of the renowned Qur’an, (Alphabet of the Arabic language; Allah and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) (1) But the unbelievers are still full of pride and hostility. (2) How many a generation We have destroyed before them, and they cried out when there was no longer time for escape! (3) And they were surprised that a Herald of Warning came to them from among themselves; and the disbelievers said, “He is a magician, a great liar!” (4) What! makes he the gods a single Allah? A strange thing is this, to be sure! (5) The chiefs among them departed saying: go, and persevere in your gods; verily this is a thing designed. (6) "We have not heard (the like) of this among the people of these later days. This is nothing but an invention! (7) "Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us?" Nay! but they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Quran)! Nay, but they have not tasted (My) Torment! (8) Or do they [think that they] own the treasures of thy Sustainer's grace - [the grace] of the Almighty, the Giver of Gifts? (9) Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)! (10) this host too, among other hosts, is bound to suffer defeat. (11) The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] 'Aad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes, (12) Thamood, the nation of Lot and the dwellers of the Thicket such were the confederates. (13) Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them). (14)
