Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 when he fled like a runaway slave onto a laden ship. 140 And then drew lots and was of those rejected; 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 'God has begotten a son.' They are certainly liars. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 except those who will burn in Hell. 163 (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed; 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 and we glorify God". 166 They used to say: 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 we would have certainly been sincere servants of God". 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 Therefore turn away from them till a time, 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 And Peace on the messengers! 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
True are the words of God the Almighty.
