۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. (22) “Instead of Allah and herd them to the path leading to hell.” (23) and stop them there for questioning: (24) 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" (25) No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission (26) They will turn upon one another, and question one another. (27) They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). (28) [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! (29) We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. (30) The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, (31) So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” (32) On that day they will all share the torment. (33) As such We shall deal with the evildoers. (34) Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). (35) And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? (36) Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. (37) “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” (38) and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. (39) Except the chosen creatures of God, (40) For them is a Sustenance determined, (41) Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, (42) In the Gardens of delight, (43) On couches, facing one another. (44) A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: (45) White and delicious to the drinkers; (46) no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. (47) And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances (48) As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. (49) Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. (50) A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, (51) who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that (52) After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' (53) He saith: Will ye look? (54) He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. (55) He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! (56) But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. (57) “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) (58) Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" (59) Most surely this is the mighty achievement. (60) For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! (61) Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? (62) For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. (63) It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; (64) Its fruit like the heads of demons. (65) The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies. (66) then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, (67) And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal (68) These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, (69) So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! (70) Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. (71) though We had sent among them warners. (72) Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, (73) except for God's sincere servants. (74)
