۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped (22) other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! (23) And detain them, for they will be questioned." (24) What aileth you that ye help not one another? (25) Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. (26) They will turn to each other saying, (27) Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" (28) Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; (29) we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. (30) But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. (31) "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." (32) So this day they all are partners in the punishment. (33) that is how We deal with evil-doers. (34) Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; (35) And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? (36) In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). (37) Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] (38) And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; (39) Save single-minded slaves of Allah; (40) there is waiting for them a known provision; (41) Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured (42) In gardens of delight, (43) On thrones facing one another. (44) With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, (45) White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. (46) Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, (47) And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). (48) As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. (49) They will go to one another asking each other questions. (50) A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, (51) Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)? (52) "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" (53) He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" (54) He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. (55) He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. (56) Had I not the guidance of my Lord, I would certainly have been brought into torment". (57) What then, shall we not die (58) Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? (59) Truly, this is the supreme success! (60) For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. (61) Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? (62) For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. (63) Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire, (64) Its spathes are like the prickly pear. (65) Truly, they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. (66) On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, (67) And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. (68) These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, (69) and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! (70) And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, (71) But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- (72) See how those who were warned met their end! (73) Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. (74)
