Juz 23
۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. (22) apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, (23) And stop them, for they shall be questioned: (24) "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" (25) Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. (26) but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. (27) Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" (28) The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, (29) We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. (30) But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. (31) “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” (32) So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. (33) Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: (34) for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, (35) And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" (36) No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. (37) Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- (38) although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. (39) Except for God's sincere servants; (40) there is waiting for them a known provision; (41) Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured (42) in the Gardens of Delight, (43) On couches facing one another; (44) There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, (45) white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. (46) but not harmful or intoxicating. (47) And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, (48) as if they were hidden pearls. (49) They will go to one another asking each other questions. (50) one of them will say, "I had a friend, (51) Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: (52) What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be requited?" (53) He shall say: Will you look on? (54) Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell. (55) and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] (56) for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! (57) (Another will say:)"Is it true, we are not going to die (58) Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" (59) Indeed, this is the mighty victory, (60) For the like of this, then, let the workers work. (61) Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum (62) Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). (63) It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell. (64) its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; (65) They will eat and fill their bellies with it, (66) On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, (67) then their return is to Hell. (68) They had indeed found their forefathers astray. (69) But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. (70) Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, (71) although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: (72) Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- (73) except for the chosen servants of Allah?
