Recite to them, as a case in point, the story of the people of the town when the Messengers came to them. (13) When We sent two of them they called them liars; so We sent a third to strengthen them. "We have been sent to you," they said. (14) They said, "You are not but human beings like us, and the Most Merciful has not revealed a thing. You are only telling lies." (15) They answered: Our Lord knoweth that we are indeed sent unto you, (16) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.” (17) but they answered, "We see an evil omen in you. If you do not stop, we shall certainly stone you, and you will suffer a painful punishment at our hands." (18) They said: Your evil augury be with you! Is it because ye are reminded (of the truth)? Nay, but ye are froward folk! (19) Then, from the furthest part of the city, a man came running. He said, "My people, follow the messengers. (20) Follow him who does not ask you for reward, and they are the followers of the right course; (21) And why should I not worship He who created me and to whom you will be returned? (22) What! Shall I take any deities apart from Him whose intercession will not avail me the least were the Merciful One to bring any adversity upon me, nor will they be able to rescue me? (23) In that case I shall most surely be in clear error: (24) I believe in your Lord, so listen to me." (25) It was said: enter thou the Garden. He said: would that my people knew. (26) "For that my Lord has granted me Forgiveness and has enrolled me among those held in honour!" (27) ۞ After him We did not send down against his people a host from heaven, nor do We send down such hosts: (28) There was just one blast, and they were extinguished. (29) Alas for My servants! Never does a Messenger come to them but they mock him. (30) Have they not seen how many nations before them did We destroy? Thereafter they never came back to them. (31) But each one of them all - will be brought before Us (for judgment). (32)
