Coin for them a similitude: The people of the city when those sent (from Allah) came unto them; (13) We sent to them two, but they belied them so We reinforced them with a third. They said: 'We have surely been sent as Messengers to you' (14) They said, 'You are naught but mortals like us; the All-merciful has not sent down anything. You are speaking only lies.' (15) They said, "Our Lord knows that We are Messengers (16) And we are not responsible except for clear notification." (17) They (the people of the city) said, “We think you are ominous; indeed, if you do not desist, we shall surely stone you to death, and you will surely face a grievous torture at our hands.” (18) [The apostles] replied: "Your destiny, good or evil, is [bound up] with yourselves! [Does it seem evil to you] if you are told to take [the truth] to heart? Nay, but you are people who have wasted their own selves!" (19) Then came a man from the furthest part of the city, running; he said, 'My people, follow the Envoys! (20) Follow those who ask no recompense of you and are rightly guided. (21) And what aileth me that I should not worship Him who hath created me, and unto whom ye shall be returned. (22) "Shall I take (other) gods besides Him? If (Allah) Most Gracious should intend some adversity for me, of no use whatever will be their intercession for me, nor can they deliver me. (23) Then truly I should be in error manifest. (24) Verily! I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me!" (25) It was said (to him): 'Enter Paradise' and he said: 'Would that my people knew (26) "For that my Lord has granted me Forgiveness and has enrolled me among those held in honour!" (27) ۞ After him, We did not send down any hosts from the heaven; We stood in no need to send down any host. (28) It was naught but a single cry, and lo! they were still. (29) Ah! Alas for (My) Servants! There comes not a messenger to them but they mock him! (30) Have they not seen how many generations We destroyed before them, which will not return to them? (31) But each one of them all - will be brought before Us (for judgment). (32)
