Recite to them, as a case in point, the story of the people of the town when the Messengers came to them. (13) We sent to them two, but they belied them so We reinforced them with a third. They said: 'We have surely been sent as Messengers to you' (14) They said, 'You are naught but mortals like us; the All-merciful has not sent down anything. You are speaking only lies.' (15) They said, "Our Lord knows that We are Messengers (16) And it is only for us to deliver a Clear Message' (17) They (the people of the city) said, “We think you are ominous; indeed, if you do not desist, we shall surely stone you to death, and you will surely face a grievous torture at our hands.” (18) The Messengers said, "This ill omen lies within yourselves. Will you then take heed? In fact, you are a transgressing people." (19) And there came running from the farthest part of the town, a man, saying: "O my people! Obey the Messengers; (20) Follow such as ask no wage of you, that are right-guided. (21) And what aileth me that I should not worship Him who hath created me, and unto whom ye shall be returned. (22) Should I take other than Him [false] deities [while], if the Most Merciful intends for me some adversity, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor can they save me? (23) Verily then I should be in error manifest. (24) "Verily, [O my people,] in the Sustainer of you all have I come to believe: listen, then, to me!" (25) It was said, 'Enter Paradise!' He said, 'Ah, would that my people had knowledge (26) Of how my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored." (27) ۞ We did not send down any army against his people from heaven, nor did We have to send one. (28) it was but one great blast and they fell down lifeless. (29) Ah, woe for those servants! Never comes unto them a Messenger, but they mock at him. (30) Have they not seen how many nations before them did We destroy? Thereafter they never came back to them. (31) all shall be arraigned before Us. (32)
