Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
34 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat) before Sheba (Saba)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Alif Lam Mim. (1) These are verses of the wise Book, (2) a guidance and a mercy to those who do good, (3) who are constant in prayer and dispense charity: for it is they, they who in their innermost are certain of the life to come! (4) Those are on [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful. (5) But among men there is many a one that prefers a mere play with words [to divine guidance,] so as to lead [those] without knowledge astray from the path of God, and to turn it to ridicule: for such there is shameful suffering in store. (6) Whenever Our messages are conveyed to such a person, he turns away in his arrogance, as though he had not heard them -- as though his ears were sealed: give him, then, the tidings of grievous suffering [in the life to come]. (7) Lo! those who believe and do good works, for them are the gardens of delight, (8) To abide therein. It is a Promise of Allah in truth. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. (9) He created the heavens without pillars that you see and cast on the earth firm mountains lest it should shake with you. Upon it He dispersed all manner of crawling thing, and He sent down water from the sky with which He caused to grow in it every generous kind. (10) Allah has created this therefore show me what has been created by those other than Him; in fact the unjust are in open error. (11)
