The Romans (Al-Room)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq) before The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif Lam Mim. (1) The Romans have been conquered (2) in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory in a few years. (3) In some few years. Allah's is the command, before and after. And on that day the believers will rejoice. (4) With the help of Allah; He helps whomever He wills; and only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. (5) [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfill His promise - but most people know [it] not: (6) They know an outward part of the present life, but of the Hereafter they are heedless. (7) Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in [the matter of] the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers. (8) Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. (9) Then the end of those that did evil was evil, for that they cried lies to the signs of God and mocked at them. (10)
