The Romans (Al-Room)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq) before The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ AlifLaamMeem. (1) The Romans have been conquered (2) in the nearer part of the land; and, after their vanquishing, they shall be the victors (3) within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. On that day the believers too will have cause to rejoice, (4) In Allah succour. He succoureth whomsoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. (5) [It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know. (6) They know but the outer (things) in the life of this world: but of the End of things they are heedless. (7) Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. (8) Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed the earth and built it up more than they have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allah would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves. (9) Then the fate of those who committed evil to the extreme was that they denied the signs of Allah and used to mock at them. (10)
