The Romans (Al-Room)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq) before The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) (1) The Byzantians have been overcome. (2) in the neighbouring land; but after their defeat they shall gain victory in a few years. (3) Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice (4) With the help of Allah, He helps whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. (5) [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfil His promise -- but most people do not know this; (6) They know the outward of this world's life, but of the hereafter they are absolutely heedless. (7) Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. (8) Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. (9) Then evil was the consequence to those who dealt in evil, because they denied the revelations of Allah and made a mock of them. (10)
