The Romans (Al-Room)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq) before The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. (1) The Roman Empire has been defeated- (2) In a nearer land; and they, after the overcoming of them, shall soon overcome. (3) In a few years (less than ten). God's is the imperative first and last. On that day the believers will rejoice (4) In the help of God. He helps whom He will; He is all-mighty, ever-merciful. (5) This is the promise of God. God does not ignore His promise, but many people do not know. (6) They only know the palpable life of this world, and are oblivious of the Hereafter. (7) Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. (8) Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. (9) Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them. (10)
