The Romans (Al-Room)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq) before The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (1) The Romans have been defeated (2) in a land close by. But, in a few years after their defeat they shall become the victors. (3) within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice (4) With the help of Allah; He helps whom He pleases; and He is the Mighty, the Merciful; (5) The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. (6) They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter. (7) Have they not thought that God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them but for a genuine purpose to exist for an appointed term? Many people do not believe in their meeting with their Lord. (8) Have they not journeyed in the land and observed what wise hath been the end of those before them? They were stronger than they in power and they broke up the earth and they inhabited it with greater affluence than these have inhabited it, and their apostles came unto them with evidences. And Allah was not one to wrong them, but themselves they were wont to wrong. (9) Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied the signs of God, and they derided them. (10)
