The Romans (Al-Room)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq) before The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. (1) The Romans are vanquished, (2) In a near land, and they, after being vanquished, shall overcome, (3) To Allah belongs the Command before and after, and on that Day the believers will rejoice (4) In Allah succour. He succoureth whomsoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. (5) The promise of Allah; Allah does not renege on His promise, but most people do not know. (6) People simply know the outward aspect of the worldly life but are utterly heedless of the Hereafter. (7) Have they not pondered upon themselves? Allah created not the heavens and the earth, and that which is between them, save with truth and for a destined end. But truly many of mankind are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord. (8) And did they not travel in the land to see what sort of fate befell those before them? They were stronger than them, and they cultivated the land and inhabited it more than them, and their Noble Messengers came to them with clear proofs; so it did not befit Allah’s Majesty to oppress them, but it was they who used to wrong themselves. (9) Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they rejected the communications of Allah and used to mock them. (10)
