The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
69 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Romans (Al-Room) before The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) (1) Do people think that they will be let go merely by saying: “We believe,” and that they will not be tested, (2) We certainly tried those who have gone before them, so God will certainly distinguish between those who are truthful and those who are lying. (3) Or do the evildoers think that they will outstrip Us? How evil is their judgment! (4) He who hopes to meet God should know that God's appointed hour is sure to come. He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. (5) And whoever strives hard, he strives only for his own soul; most surely Allah is Self-sufficient, above (need of) the worlds. (6) And as for those who attain to faith and do righteous deeds, We shall most certainly efface their [previous] bad deeds, and shall most certainly reward them in accordance with the best that they ever did. (7) Now [among the best of righteous deeds which] We have enjoined upon man [is] goodness towards his parents; yet [even so,] should they endeavour to make thee ascribe divinity, side by side with Me, to something which thy mind cannot accept [as divine,] obey them not: [for] it is unto Me that you all must return, whereupon I shall make you [truly] understand [the right and wrong of] all that you were doing [in life]. (8) But as for those who have attained to faith and have done righteous deeds, We shall most certainly cause them to join the righteous [in the hereafter as well]. (9) Of mankind are some who say: "We believe in Allah," but if they are made to suffer for the sake of Allah, they consider the trial of mankind as Allah's punishment, and if victory comes from your Lord, (the hypocrites) will say: "Verily! We were with you (helping you)." Is not Allah Best Aware of what is in the breast of the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). (10) And indeed Allah will make known the believers, and indeed He will expose the hypocrites. (11) And those who disbelieve say to those who believe: "Follow our way and we will verily bear your sins," never will they bear anything of their sins. Surely, they are liars. (12) They will carry their own loads and other loads besides their own; and will surely be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about what they contrived. (13)
