In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Mim. (1) Do people think that once they say, "We believe," they will be left alone and not be put to the test? (2) Yea, indeed, We did test those who lived before them; and so, [too, shall be tested the people now living: and] most certainly will God mark out those who prove themselves true, and most certainly will He mark out those who are lying. (3) Or do those who do ill-deeds imagine that they can outstrip Us? Evil (for them) is that which they decide. (4) Let those who have the desire to be in the presence of God on the Day of Judgment know that their day will certainly be coming. God is All-Hearing and All-Knowing. (5) And whoever strives, strives only for himself, God is independent of all His creation, (6) And whosoever believe and work righteous works, We shall purge away from them their ill-deeds and shall recompense them the best of that which they have been working. (7) And We have enjoined on man goodness to his parents, and if they contend with you that you should associate (others) with Me, of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, to Me is your return, so I will inform you of what you did. (8) Those who believe and do good works shall be admitted among the righteous. (9) There are among men those who say: "We believe in God;" yet if they happen to suffer in the cause of God they take oppression by men as punishment from God. And if help comes to them from your Lord, they say: "We were with you." Does not God know what is hidden in the hearts of men? (10) God surely knows the believers, and He knows the hypocrites. (11) The unbelievers say to the believers: “Follow our way and we will carry the burden of your sins.” (They say so even though) they are not going to carry any part of their sins. Surely they are lying. (12) Yet most certainly will they have to bear their own burdens, and other burdens besides their own; and most certainly will they be called to account on Resurrection Day for all their false assertions! (13)
