Stories (Al-Qasas)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Ant (Al-Naml) before The Night Journey (Al-Isra)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ta. Sin. Mim. (1) These are verses from the Book that makes things clear. (2) We shall narrate to you the true tidings of Moosa and Firaun, for the people who have faith. (3) Behold, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and divided its people into castes. One group of them he deemed utterly low; he would slaughter their sons and spare (only) their women: for, behold, he was one of those who spread corruption [on earth]. (4) And We desired to bestow a favor upon those who were deemed weak in the land, and to make them the Imams, and to make them the heirs, (5) And establish them in the country; and to make the Pharaoh, Haman and their hordes beware of what they feared from them. (6) We inspired Moses' mother saying, "Suckle him, and then, when you fear for him, cast him into the river, and have no fear and do not grieve, for We shall return him to you, and shall make him one of the Messengers." (7) And Firon's family took him up that he might be an enemy and a grief for them; surely Firon and Haman and their hosts were wrongdoers. (8) and Pharaoh's wife said, "He will be a joy to the eye for me and you! Do not slay him: he may well be of use to us, or we may adopt him as a son." They did not realize what they were doing. (9) And the heart of Musa's mother was free (from anxiety) she would have almost disclosed it had We not strengthened her heart so that she might be of the believers. (10) She told Moses' sister to follow her brother. His sister watched him from one side and the people of the Pharaoh did not notice her presence. (11) ۞ We had already made him refuse all wet nurses. So his sister said to them, "Shall I tell you of a family who will bring him up for you and take good care of him?" (12) So We restored him to his mother that she might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the promise of Allah is true. But most of the people do not know. (13)
