Stories (Al-Qasas)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Ant (Al-Naml) before The Night Journey (Al-Isra)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ta, Seen, Meem. (1) These are Verses of the Book that makes (things) clear. (2) We narrate unto thee (somewhat) of the story of Moses and Pharaoh with truth, for folk who believe. (3) Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters. (4) But We have decided to grant a favor to the suppressed ones by appointing them leaders and heirs of the land, (5) And to give them control in the land, and to show Firaun and Haman and their armies what they fear from them. (6) We suggested to the mother of Moses: "Suckle your child, but when you fear for his life cast him into the river and be not fearful nor grieve, for We shall restore him to you and make him one of the Messengers." (7) Then the people of Pharaoh picked him up (from the river): (It was intended) that (Moses) should be to them an adversary and a cause of sorrow: for Pharaoh and Haman and (all) their hosts were men of sin. (8) And the wife of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "A comfort of the eye for me and for you. Kill him not, perhaps he may be of benefit to us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceive not (the result of that). (9) And the heart of the mother of Musa became void, and she had wellnigh disclosed him, had We not fortified her heart, that she might remain one of the believers. (10) And she said to his sister: Follow him up. So she watched him from a distance while they did not perceive, (11) ۞ We had already made him refuse all wet nurses. So his sister said to them, "Shall I tell you of a family who will bring him up for you and take good care of him?" (12) Thus We restored him to his mother that she may be tranquil and not grieve, and know that the promise of God is true, though most men do not know. (13)
