Stories (Al-Qasas)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Ant (Al-Naml) before The Night Journey (Al-Isra)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ta'. Sin. Mim (1) These are the verses of the Book that makes (things) clear. (2) We recite to you some of the story of Moses and the Pharaoh for a genuine purpose, and for the benefit of the believing people. (3) Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into factions, oppressing a sector among them, slaughtering their [newborn] sons and keeping their females alive. Indeed, he was of the corrupters. (4) And We desired to show favour unto those who were oppressed in the earth, and to make them examples and to make them the inheritors, (5) and to establish them in the land, and to show Pharaoh and Ha man, and their hosts, what they were dreading from them. (6) We inspired Moses' mother saying, "Suckle him, and then, when you fear for him, cast him into the river, and have no fear and do not grieve, for We shall return him to you, and shall make him one of the Messengers." (7) Then the people of Pharaoh picked him up (from the river): (It was intended) that (Moses) should be to them an adversary and a cause of sorrow: for Pharaoh and Haman and (all) their hosts were men of sin. (8) Said Pharaoh's wife, 'He will be a comfort to me and thee. Slay him not; perchance he will profit us, or we will take him for a son.' And they were not aware. (9) The mother of Moses was perturbed in the morning. Had We not strengthened her heart to remain a believer she had almost given him away. (10) And she said to his [Musa's (Moses)] sister: "Follow him." So she (his sister) watched him from a far place secretly, while they perceived not. (11) ۞ And We had already forbidden (other) foster suckling mothers for him, until she (his sister came up and) said: "Shall I direct you to a household who will rear him for you, and sincerely they will look after him in a good manner?" (12) So did We restore him to his mother, that she might be delighted, and that she might not grieve, and that she might know that the Promise of Allah is true. But most of them know not. (13)
