Stories (Al-Qasas)
88 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Ant (Al-Naml) before The Night Journey (Al-Isra)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ta-Seen-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah and to whomever he reveals, know their precise meanings.) (1) These are revelations of the Scripture that maketh plain. (2) We [now] convey unto thee some of the story of Moses and Pharaoh, setting forth the truth for [the benefit of] people who will believe. (3) Pharaoh behaved arrogantly in the land, and divided the people into groups, seeking to weaken one section, slaying their sons and sparing their daughters, he was one of those who spread corruption, (4) And We desired to show favour unto those who were oppressed in the earth, and to make them examples and to make them the inheritors, (5) give them power in the land and make the Pharaoh, Haman (his Minister), and their armies to experience from their victims what they feared most. (6) And We inspired the mother of Moses, saying: Suckle him and, when thou fearest for him, then cast him into the river and fear not nor grieve. Lo! We shall bring him back unto thee and shall make him (one) of Our messengers. (7) Then the family of Pharaoh picked him out to be an enemy and a sorrow for them, indeed Pharaoh and Haman, and their army were sinners. (8) And the wife of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "A comfort of the eye for me and for you. Kill him not, perhaps he may be of benefit to us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceive not (the result of that). (9) And the heart of Moses' mother became empty [of all else]. She was about to disclose [the matter concerning] him had We not bound fast her heart that she would be of the believers. (10) And she said to his sister, "Follow him"; so she watched him from a distance while they perceived not. (11) ۞ We made (Moses) refuse a wet nurse. So his sister said: "Should I tell you of a household that could bring him up for you and take care of him?" (12) So We restored him unto his mother that she might be comforted and not grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true. Yet most of them know not. (13)
