Hizb 39
Juz 20
To Thamud We sent their brother Salih. He said, "Serve none but God." But they divided themselves into two factions contending with one another. (45) 'My nation' he said, 'why do you wish to hasten evil rather than good? Why do you not ask the forgiveness of Allah, in order that you find mercy' (46) They said: "Ill omen do we augur from thee and those that are with thee". He said: "Your ill omen is with Allah; yea, ye are a people under trial." (47) And there were nine of a group in the city, who spread corruption in the land and rectified not. (48) They said: Swear one to another by Allah that we verily will attack him and his household by night, and afterward we will surely say unto his friend: We witnessed not the destruction of his household. And lo! we are truthtellers. (49) Thus they devised a plan, and We also devised a plan, but they were not aware of it. (50) We destroyed them and their people altogether. (51) Now such were their houses, - in utter ruin, - because they practised wrong-doing. Verily in this is a Sign for people of knowledge. (52) And We saved those who believed, and used to fear Allah, and keep their duty to Him. (53) AND [thus, too, did We save] Lot, when he said unto his people: "Would you commit this abomination with your eyes open (to its being against all nature)? (54) Do you indeed approach men with desire instead of women? Rather, you are a people behaving ignorantly." (55) ۞ His people had no answer except saying: "Expel the family of Lot from your city. They are a people who would (rather) be pure!" (56) Then We saved him and his household save his wife; We destined her to be of those who stayed behind. (57) the while We rained a rain [of destruction] upon the others: and dire is such rain upon all who let themselves be warned [to no avail] (58)
