Hizb 39
Juz 20
To Thamud We sent their brother Salih. He said, "Serve none but God." But they divided themselves into two factions contending with one another. (45) He said, “O my people, why do you hasten upon the evil before the good? Why do you not seek forgiveness from Allah? Perhaps there may be mercy upon you.” (46) They said, "We have an ill omen about you and your followers." Salih replied, God has made your ill fortune await you. You are a people on trial." (47) And there were nine persons in the city who used to cause turmoil in the land and did not wish reform. (48) They said: "Swear one to another by Allah that we shall make a secret night attack on him and his household, and afterwards we will surely say to his near relatives: 'We witnessed not the destruction of his household, and verily! We are telling the truth.'" (49) They hatched up the plot; We also planned without their knowledge. (50) See, then, what the consequences of their plan were. We destroyed them and their people utterly, all together. (51) Now such were their houses, - in utter ruin, - because they practised wrong-doing. Verily in this is a Sign for people of knowledge. (52) And We saved those who believed, and used to fear Allah, and keep their duty to Him. (53) AND [thus, too, did We save] Lot, when he said unto his people: "Would you commit this abomination with your eyes open (to its being against all nature)? (54) Must ye needs lust after men instead of women? Nay, but ye are folk who act senselessly. (55) ۞ Yet the only answer of his nation was that they said: 'Expel the family of Lot from your village, they are people who purified themselves' (56) So We saved him and his family except his wife who was destined to stay behind. (57) And We showered a rain upon them; so what a wretched rain for those who were warned! (58)
