Hizb 39
Juz 20
We sent (aforetime), to the Thamud, their brother Salih, saying, "Serve Allah": But behold, they became two factions quarrelling with each other. (45) He said: O my people! wherefore seek ye to hasten the evil before the good? Wherefore ask ye not forgiveness of Allah, that haply ye may be shewn mercy. (46) They said, "We have an ill omen about you and your followers." Salih replied, God has made your ill fortune await you. You are a people on trial." (47) And there were in the city nine persons who made mischief in the land and did not act aright. (48) They said: "Swear one to another by Allah that we shall make a secret night attack on him and his household, and afterwards we will surely say to his near relatives: 'We witnessed not the destruction of his household, and verily! We are telling the truth.'" (49) So they devised a scheme, and We made our secret plan, and they remained neglectful. (50) So see what was the outcome of the plan they made: We utterly destroyed them and their people, all of them. (51) Now behold their houses that lie in utter ruins because of their wrong-doing. Verily there is a Sign in this for the people who know. (52) and We saved those who believed in and feared God. (53) (Remember) Lot, when he said to his people: "Why do you indulge in obscenities when you know (it is evil)? (54) "Do you approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, but you are a people who behave senselessly." (55) ۞ But the answer of his folk was naught save that they said: Expel the household of Lot from your township, for they (forsooth) are folk who would keep clean! (56) So We delivered him and his family, except his wife: We ordained her to be one of those who stayed behind, (57) We sent to them a terrible rainstorm. How horrible was the rain for the people who had already received warning. (58)
