Hizb 39
Juz 20
And We verily sent unto Thamud their brother Salih, saying: Worship Allah. And lo! they (then became two parties quarrelling. (45) 'My nation' he said, 'why do you wish to hasten evil rather than good? Why do you not ask the forgiveness of Allah, in order that you find mercy' (46) They answered: "We augur evil from thee and those that follow thee!" Said he: "Your destiny, good or evil, rests with God; yea, you are people undergoing a test!" (47) And there were in the city nine men (from the sons of their chiefs), who made mischief in the land, and would not reform. (48) They said, "Let us bind ourselves by an oath sworn in the name of God that we shall attack Salih and his family by night, and to his protector [who demands retribution], we shall say, "We were not present when they were slain. We are telling the truth." (49) And so they devised an evil scheme; but We devised a subtle scheme (of Our own), and they perceived it not. (50) See, then, how was the end of their plan that We destroyed them and their people, all (of them). (51) See, yonder are their dwellings empty and in ruins because they did wrong. Lo! herein is indeed a portent for a people who have knowledge. (52) And We delivered those who believed and were wont to fear. (53) And Lut! what time he said unto his people: commit ye indecency while ye see? (54) "Do you approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, but you are a people who behave senselessly." (55) ۞ But this had only one answer from his people. They said: "Expel Lot's folk from your city. They pretend to be absolutely clean." (56) So We saved him and his family, except his wife, whom We decreed should stay behind. (57) We sent to them a terrible rainstorm. How horrible was the rain for the people who had already received warning. (58)
