Hizb 39
Juz 20
We sent (aforetime), to the Thamud, their brother Salih, saying, "Serve Allah": But behold, they became two factions quarrelling with each other. (45) 'My nation' he said, 'why do you wish to hasten evil rather than good? Why do you not ask the forgiveness of Allah, in order that you find mercy' (46) They said: "We augur ill omen from you and those with you." He said: "Your ill omen is with Allah; nay, but you are a people that are being tested." (47) In the city there were nine people who were corrupting the land and did not reform. (48) They said, "Let us bind ourselves by an oath sworn in the name of God that we shall attack Salih and his family by night, and to his protector [who demands retribution], we shall say, "We were not present when they were slain. We are telling the truth." (49) So they devised a scheme, and We made our secret plan, and they remained neglectful. (50) Behold, then, what all their scheming came to in the end: We utterly destroyed them and their people, all of them; (51) See, yonder are their dwellings empty and in ruins because they did wrong. Lo! herein is indeed a portent for a people who have knowledge. (52) And We delivered those who believed and were wont to fear. (53) (We also sent) Lut (as a messenger): behold, He said to his people, "Do ye do what is shameful though ye see (its iniquity)? (54) Do you lustfully approach men instead of women? Nay, you engage in acts of sheer ignorance." (55) ۞ But the answer of his folk was naught save that they said: Expel the household of Lot from your township, for they (forsooth) are folk who would keep clean! (56) But We delivered him and his followers except his wife; We ordained her to be of those who remained behind. (57) And We rained on them a rain; and evil indeed is the rain of them that are warned. (58)
