Hizb 39
Juz 20
We sent (aforetime), to the Thamud, their brother Salih, saying, "Serve Allah": But behold, they became two factions quarrelling with each other. (45) He said, “O my people, why do you hasten upon the evil before the good? Why do you not seek forgiveness from Allah? Perhaps there may be mercy upon you.” (46) They said, “We consider you an evil omen, and your companions”; he said, “Your evil omen is with Allah in fact you people have fallen into trial.” (47) There were nine tribes in the city spreading evil without any reform in the land. (48) [and] after having bound one another by an oath in God's name, they said: "Indeed, we shall suddenly fall upon him and his household by night [and slay them all]; and then we shall boldly say to his next of kin, 'We did not witness the destruction of his household - and behold, we are indeed men of truth!'" (49) They plotted and planned, but We too planned, even while they perceived it not. (50) We destroyed them and their people altogether. (51) See, yonder are their dwellings empty and in ruins because they did wrong. Lo! herein is indeed a portent for a people who have knowledge. (52) seeing that We saved those who had attained to faith and were conscious of Us, (53) And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, "Do you commit immorality while you are seeing? (54) Would ye really approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, ye are a people (grossly) ignorant! (55) ۞ The only answer of his people was, "Drive out Lot and his family from the city. They are a people who make themselves out to be pure." (56) But We saved him and his family, except his wife; her We destined to be of those who lagged behind. (57) And We rained down on them a shower (of stones). How ruinous was the rain that fell on those who had been warned (but warned in vain)! (58)
