She said: O chiefs! give me advice respecting my affair: I never decide an affair until you are in my presence. (32) They replied, "We have great power and valor. You are the commander, so decide as you like". (33) She said: Lo! kings, when they enter a township, ruin it and make the honour of its people shame. Thus will they do. (34) But indeed, I will send to them a gift and see with what [reply] the messengers will return." (35) But when he came to Solomon, he said: 'Is it wealth that you would give me, when Allah has given me that which is better than He has given to you? No, but instead you rejoice in your gift! (36) Envoy, go back to those who sent you and we shall certainly come upon them with hosts whom they will be unable to resist. We shall drive them out from there, and they will suffer humiliation and disgrace." (37) He said: "O chiefs! Which of you can bring me her throne before they come to me surrendering themselves in obedience?" (38) A demon from among the jinn said, "I will bring it to you before you get up from your seat. I am strong and trustworthy enough to do it." (39) And he who had some knowledge of the Book said: "I will bring it before the twinkling of your eye." When Solomon saw the throne placed firmly beside him, he cried out: "This is by the grace of my Lord so that He may test me whether I give thanks for (His Bounty) or act with ingratitude. Whoever is grateful is so to his own good; and whoever is ungrateful, let him know that my Lord is Immensely Resourceful, Most Bountiful." (40) Solomon said: " Set the throne before her casually, and let us see whether she gets to the Truth or is one of those who are not guided to what is right." (41) So when she came, it was said: Is your throne like this? She said: It is as it were the same, and we were given the knowledge before it, and we were submissive. (42) And that which she was wont to worship instead of Allah hindered her; verily she was of an infidel people. (43) [After a while] she was told: "Enter this court!" - but when she saw it, she thought that it was a fathomless expanse of water, and she bared her legs. Said he: "Behold, it is [but] a court smoothly paved with glass!" Cried she: "O my Sustainer! I have been sinning against myself thy worshipping aught but Thee]: but [now] I have surrendered myself, with Solomon, unto the Sustainer of all the worlds!" (44)
