(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) (141) When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? (142) "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. (143) so fear you God, and obey you me.' (144) "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. (145) Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. (146) Within gardens and springs (147) The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, (148) "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. (149) So fear Allah, and obey me. (150) And do not obey the order of the transgressors, (151) and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." (152) They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. (153) You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. (154) He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. (155) And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. (156) But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. (157) For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. (158) Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. (159)
