Thamood cried lies to the Envoys (141) Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? (142) "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. (143) so fear you God, and obey you me.' (144) 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. (145) Will you be left secure in what is here; (146) "In gardens and springs. (147) and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- (148) You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. (149) "But fear Allah and obey me; (150) And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, (151) Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. (152) They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; (153) You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. (154) He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. (155) And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. (156) But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. (157) So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. (158) Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. (159)
